About
Dear Wedding Couple,
At St. Thomas’ we offer to provide a children’s choir to enhance your Marriage service. The children are aged between 7 and 18 years old and sing regularly with the church choir. You are welcome to come and hear the choir sing either at choir practice 6.30-8.30pm on Friday evenings or at the regular Sunday services in church (Sunday morning service at 10am and Choral Evensong on the third Sunday of the month at 6.30pm). Unfortunately, due to weekend commitments we are unable to offer the full four-part choir. The choir wear traditional robes and sit in the choir stalls next to the organ.
The role of the choir in a wedding service (apart from looking cute) is to lead the singing of the hymns and to sing a suitable piece of music of your choice during the signing of the registers. It is best to choose a piece of music from the suggested repertoire below as the choir will know it well and we have the printed music already. Other pieces can be negotiated providing you can provide the music to sing from and it is within the capability of the choir. You may wish to listen to the suggested repertoire on Spotify, YouTube etc. to help you choose.
All the best for a beautiful wedding day and a long and happy marriage.
Dr Tom Howling
Director of Music, St.Thomas’ Parish Church, Mellor.
